City Library Francesco Inverni of Poggio a Caiano
Presentation of the library
The library, established in 1972, suffers the loss of his patrimony as a result of the flood of 1992. It reopened on 1995. Since 2002 it has a new col location within the Medici Stales. Its heritage is today made up of about 15.000 volumes and a careful selection of magazines of all kinds.
The local section collects documents dealing of Poggio a Caiano end its territory, with particular attention to the Villa Medici and to famous citizen from Poggio such as Filippo Mazzei (1730-1816), Francesco Inverni (1935-1991), Suor Margherita Caiani (1863-1921), Armando Spadini (1883-1925) and Giorgio Gatti.
At the beginning of 2009 was established the Section Soffici, which is in close collaboration with the Museum Soffici (located on the first floor of the Medici Stables) and contains documents and publications about and from the artist.
At the end of the same year was opened an new area that hosts the Youth Section and the Reading Space for children aimed at pupils of the kindergarten, the primary and middle schools. Through guided tours the children have the opportunity to learn about the library and the activities aimed at the promotion of books and reading.
At the library you can use services such as interlibrary loan and local assistance and bibliographic counselling, consultation of internet and of online catalogues. There is also free internet access and wi-fi.
